Your writing stays on your computer

TypeBlink was built so that the words you type never have to leave your Mac or PC. This page explains exactly what the app and this website do with data.

The app

Suggestions are made on your computer

TypeBlink runs a language model on your own computer. The text near your cursor goes only to that local model, which answers on your machine. No account is needed, and the app has no analytics, crash reporting or other telemetry.

What it reads

  • The text before and after your cursor in the box you are typing in, to suggest what comes next.
  • The name of the app you are typing in, so suggestions can match its tone (you can switch this off).
  • The text on your clipboard, only if you switch on clipboard context (off by default).

Password fields are never read, and TypeBlink does not learn from what you type in password managers such as 1Password or Keychain Access.

What it stores, and where

  • Settings and statistics (how many words you completed per day) stay on your computer.
  • Learned writing, only if you turn on “learn from what I write”: saved on your computer, encrypted with a key kept in your system's secure credential store (Keychain on a Mac, Credential Manager on Windows, GNOME Keyring on Ubuntu). You can delete it any time in Settings.
  • Models you download, in the app's folder (on a Mac, ~/Library/Application Support/TypeBlink).

When it goes online

Only for these, and none of them includes anything you write:

  • Downloading a model you chose, from where its makers publish it.
  • Checking for a new version of TypeBlink.

After the model is downloaded, TypeBlink works fully offline.

Permissions

On a Mac, TypeBlink asks for Accessibility access, which lets it read the box you type in and insert the words you accept. On Ubuntu it works as a keyboard input source. Windows needs no extra permission.

This website

This website has no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Like any website, the company that hosts it may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability.

If you send feedback or a review through the feedback form, we receive what you type into it, including your name and email address if you give them. We use it only to read and answer your message, and we only publish a review on this site if you ticked the box allowing it.

App downloads are served by the service that hosts our release files, which, like any website, sees standard request details such as your IP address.
